Kimono

A$35.00

The Kimono is the traditional dress of the Japanese, known worldwide for its beauty and elegance.

Believed to live for a thousand years, and to inhabit the land of the 13th Century immortals, the Kimono is a symbol of longevity and good fortune worn to observe seasons, or occasions such as weddings and festivals, to bestow good fortune on the wearer.

During the modernisation of karate in Japan during the 20th Century the widespread adoption a kimono style white uniform appeared. This uniform was called a Keikogi, or more simply known today as the Gi. The use of the keikogi was intended to attract more students to the martial art and to lift its prestige as a Japanese martial art.

The Kimono candle returns to the origins of the Gi, when the Kimono was worn during Japanese tea ceremonies, known as sado (The Way of Tea). Sado is a ceremonial way of preparing and drinking green tea typically in a traditional tearoom with tatami floor. Beyond simply serving and receiving tea, one of the key purposes of sado was to set a scene of relaxation and peace, far removed from the face paced life of everyday Japan.

To honour the sado, the Kimono candle brings the experience of the sado into your space through a combination of fragrant oils and green tea to create a soothing atmosphere of tradition, ceremony and relaxation.

Sweet. Green. Smooth. Fresh.
