Black Belt

A$35.00

The systematic use of belt colour, to denote rank, was first used in Japan in the 1880s, by Jigoro Kano, the founder of judo. Previously, Japanese Koryu instructors tended to provide rank certificates only. Initially the wide obi was used. As practitioners trained in a kimono, only white and black obi were awarded. It wasn’t until the early 1900s, after the introduction of the judogi (or more commonly known today as the Gi), that other colours were introduced. This custom was later adopted by other martial arts.

The most sacred of the ranks, the black belt represents the beginnings of the end of the martial arts journey. It signifies that one has mastered the learnings, techniques and competencies and now is ready to start the first steps forward, they are no longer simply a student.

As the most important exigent belt, the Black Belt candle transudes aromas of status, distinction, strength and tradition into your space. With a unique blend of the most sacred scents known to mankind perfectly blended with traditional oriental oils, this candle demands respect.
